Arsenal now warned Liverpool have one key advantage over them in title race

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes that Liverpool have one key advantage over Arsenal this season.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool will be looking to challenge reigning champions Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.

As things stand, those three clubs are clustered together at the top of the table, with only a single point separating Manchester City from the chasing pair.

Arsenal spent heavily in the recent summer transfer window to boost their chances of claiming the top flight crown this time around. A club-record £105 million fee was spent to bring Declan Rice to the Emirates stadium, whilst Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, and David Raya were also added to Mikel Arteta’s squad. 

However, Chris Sutton still believes that the north London club are lacking in one key area. Speaking on The Monday Night Club, he said, “the issue with Arsenal is that and I think Alan Shearer said about Eddie Nketiah not being an elite striker and I think everybody feels there is maybe the thought there is a bit of a void in that centre-forward position for Arsenal, whereas Liverpool have that covered.”

“Arteta can play Jesus, Nketiah, he can play Trossard if he wants as a false nine, but they don’t have the options that Liverpool have.”

Arsenal still trailing in attack

Both Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have come in for criticism at times this season, though both have shown moments of real quality too. The biggest issue when it comes to Jesus is his fitness. The Brazilian forward simply misses too many matches due to injury.

Leandro Trossard has shown in recent weeks that he can be relied upon to lead the line. 

In truth, though, Arsenal do lack an elite-level striker. Recent links with Ivan Toney suggest that Arteta is aiming to bolster his options in this part of the pitch.

Liverpool’s own attacking options in central areas aren’t necessarily that much more convincing, though. There are certainly still question marks over Darwin Nunez.

Neither club can claim to have a goalscorer on Erling Haaland’s level, after all. Manchester City still represent the benchmark in that respect. Both Arsenal and Liverpool will need to share the goals around between their players if they are to stand any chance of winning the title this season.
