Arsenal now warned of one huge reason why they are ‘not going to win the title’

Presenter Jeff Stelling believes that Arsenal will not win the Premier League title this season for one reason.

Arsenal were top of the Premier League table on Christmas Day, and looking well-placed to sustain a strong title challenge into the second half of the campaign. 

Since then, though, the Gunners’ form has dipped. First, they lost 2-0 against West Ham United. Whilst this was undeniably a disappointing result, Mikel Arteta could take some solace from the fact his side dominated the match, created plenty of chances, and on another day might have come away with a positive results.

There was nothing unfortunate about the north London club’s 2-1 loss against Fulham last time out, though. Arsenal were thoroughly outclassed at Craven Cottage and deservedly beaten. Every Arsenal player underperformed and the result left them fourth in the table and five points off pole position.

At this stage last season, Arsenal were top of the tree and ten points better off than they are now. These consecutive defeats have dealt a hefty blow to their chances of winning the title this season, considering the standard at the top end of the Premier League is so high.

Why is Arsenal’s title bid faltering?

What has cost Arteta’s side so dearly in recent matches is their bluntness in attack. Gabriel Martinelli is struggling to provide any end product and often looks isolated on the left-flank. Gabriel Jesus has come under fire for his unreliable finishing. Bukayo Saka is being effectively targeted by opposition defenders to who seem to have figured out how to limit his impact.

This is obviously a huge problem for the Gunners, and one that Jeff Stelling believes will fatally undermine their title bid. Speaking on talkSPORT, he said, “if you look at that front three, Martinelli, Jesus, and Saka, between them they have eleven Premier League goals this season. You’re not going to win the title with that sort of output.”

Given the Gunners’ lack of goals. Arteta may seek to bring in some extra firepower in the January transfer window. Arsenal are thought to be on the hunt for a new striker, with a number of potential arrivals having been linked with the club. Bringing in a prolific forward in the coming weeks could reinvigorate their title charge.

Make no mistake, there is still a long way to go and Arsenal are from being out of the race. However, they will be soon if they don’t find a way to regularly find the back of the net once again.

In the meantime, Saka, Martinelli, and Jesus need to step up and hit the heights they have previously proven themselves to be capable of reaching.
