On a night that saw Mikel Merino score a hat-trick for Spain, another Arsenal player failed to impress.
The countdown is on until Arsenal’s clash with Nottingham Forest as Mikel Arteta eagerly awaits the safe return of his players.
First, the September international break must conclude, with the World Cup Qualifiers still taking place.
It’s been a break to remember Merino, who scored a hat-trick for Spain against Turkey, a match that Martin Zubimendi also featured in.

Leandro Trossard slammed on international duty by Belgian media
Arsenal’s Spanish representatives weren’t the only ones in action on Sunday night, as Leandro Trossard also started for Belgium against Kazakhstan.
After winning 6-0 against Liechtenstein, Belgium won 6-0 again, beating Kazakhstan on a night that saw Kevin De Bruyne shine.
While De Bruyne and Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku excelled, Trossard was quite the opposite, as Belgian media gave a brutally honest review about the Arsenal forward’s performance.
7sur7 called Trossard the ‘disappointment of the evening’, giving him a 5/10 match rating while detailing his ongoing struggles to ‘shine with the national team’.
A 5/10 match rating is what Sudinfo also gave, calling the 30-year-old the ‘least visible’ of the night.
Walfoot went even lower and handed Trossard a 4.5/10 rating, slamming the winger’s ‘sluggish’ display.
“Was he playing for big bucks? It’s hard to know where to stand, given the Arsenal striker’s high regard among the Belgian coaches. But this time, given the competition (and the level of it, with Saelemaekers and Fofana having made their debuts), it seems that Trossard may have played one of his last cards. A very sluggish, uninspired, slow, and mostly untimely match.”
It was a similarly scathing review from DH Net, who questioned why the Arsenal player is getting minutes ahead of others in the squad.
“Leandro Trossard also gets another chance to shine. He’s no Lois Openda, but the Arsenal player’s contribution when he’s a starter isn’t impressive, quite the opposite.”
Leandro Trossard’s match stats from Belgium’s win against Kazakhstan
It was harsh feedback from the media, but it unfortunately paints the picture of Trossard’s struggles.
Sofascore gave Kevin De Bruyne a rating of 10 and Doku a 9.1, while Trossard earned the lowest of the night for Belgium with 6.6.
Leandro Trossard vs Kazakhstan
30 touches
17 passes
2 key passes
0 shots
0 successful dribbles
0 crosses
7x possession lost
While others contributed to goals and were impossible for Kazakhstan to compete with, the Arsenal star flattered to deceive, being almost anonymous on the left side.
Trossard will hope Mikel Arteta wasn’t watching the match, as the Belgian continues to battle for minutes in the Premier League.
