Arsenal scout says he has found the new Angel Di Maria but he hasn’t signed him for one reason

Jonathan Videlle heads Arsenal’s scouting in South America.

The 48-year-old has worked for the Gunners since 2014, and he has played his part in unearthing a few incredible young players.

Videlle revealed that he made over 50 reports on Thiago Almada, but Arsenal still didn’t sign him. The Argentine joined Atletico Madrid instead.

Now, the Gunners’ scout says he has found a player similar to Angel Di Maria – Dario Osorio.

Videlle must know every talented young player coming out of South America.

The Argentine has been a scout for Arsenal for over a decade, and his experience in the role makes him one of the best in the business.

Videlle has spotted Osorio during his scouting sessions, and he likes what he has seen from the 21-year-old Chile international, who currently plays for FC Midtjylland.

The scout has even compared him to a young Di Maria, who was absolutely incredible during his time at Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Videlle hasn’t recommended Osorio to Arsenal because he isn’t ready for such a big step just yet.

He said, as per BolaVIP: “I see similarities with Di María when he started, because Osorio has that kind of intelligent winger profile. Skilful in one-on-one situations, knows how to cut inside and finish well.

“Maybe he was missing something to make a bigger jump. Going to Arsenal would have been too big, too soon.

“Sometimes it’s better to go through leagues like Mexico, the Netherlands, Portugal or Denmark. It’s the right path to build confidence, develop all your strengths. Then see how far you can go, with the right mentality.”

Di Maria became a superstar at Real Madrid, but he was viewed as a huge talent long before.

The Argentine started his career at Rosario Central in his home country, and in 2007, he was ready to move to a bigger league in Europe.

Arsene Wenger, who had a terrific eye for young talent, spotted Di Maria and wanted to sign him for Arsenal. But the rules meant he couldn’t.

The Frenchman told BBC Sport in 2015: We wanted him to come here. We had identified Di Maria when he was 17 in an international competition.

“But he went to Portugal, and from Portugal he went to Spain.

“Why? Because he could not get a work permit for England, so that meant you could only get him to England once he was worth a huge amount of money.”
