Arsenal enjoyed many memorable wins during the reign of Arsene Wenger.

Wenger enjoyed an incredible spell as manager of the club during his 22 years at Arsenal, winning the Premier League on three occasions and the FA Cup a record seven times.

Arsenal enjoyed memorable Champions League wins under the French boss but European glory was the one thing that evaded Wenger’s CV during his managerial career.

In 2006, he came within touching distance of winning the Champions League with his beloved Arsenal and during that campaign one game in particular was the coming of age for one of Wenger’s young stars.

Cesc Fabregas gave Patrick Vieira ‘difficult’ game in Arsenal victory in 2006

Arsenal faced Juventus at Highbury in the Champions League quarter final and Patrick Vieira returned to North London for the Italian giants following his move there the previous summer.

Goals from Cesc Fabregas and Thierry Henry gave the Gunners a night to remember as they tore Juventus to pieces and secured a comfortable two goal lead going into the second leg in Turin.

As per BBC Sport, Fabregas gave Vieira a ‘difficult return’ in midfield throughout the game and it signified a shift in power in terms of the two careers.

Vieira had enjoyed many excellent years in his career but was coming to the twilight of his career as the exciting talent of the Spaniard was just beginning to make his mark in the game.

Fabregas hurt Wenger upon Arsenal exit

Speaking to the Mail Online, Fabregas revealed how his exit from Arsenal to Barcelona in 2011 hurt his former boss Wenger and that was a factor in the midfielder not returning to North London in 2014.

Fabregas stated: “He said to fit me in he would have to play someone out and this could create, you know… I think also he was a little bit hurt… by how I left and everything.”

Fabregas eventually joined Chelsea and won the Premier League with the club in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal will always be a club that the Spaniard holds close to his heart and he gave Gunners supporters some memories they will never forget, including that night against Juventus at Highbury.
