Arsenal star Declan Rice was spotted growing frustrated with one teammate as England were held to a 1-1 draw by Denmark at Euro 2024.

England produced a sub-par performance on Thursday evening as they laboured to a draw against Denmark.

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice struggled to impress in the middle of the park for the Three Lions.

As Gareth Southgate’s side set ever deeper after taking a first half lead, inviting pressure and allowing the game to be compressed into their own half, the 25-year-old could not find the space needed to carry the ball forward, nor were there any teammates further up the pitch offering him an outlet.

This led to the former West Ham United man getting caught on the ball all too often over the course of what was clearly a frustrating 90 minutes for the midfielder.

Mikel Arteta has taken Rice’s game to a new level since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium. The player has proven himself to be capable of making an impact at both ends of the pitch, and has flourished with the freedom he has been afforded in North London.

England can’t get the same levels out of Rice as he displays at Arsenal due to Southgate’s tactics. He is not the only player to be hampered by the national team manager’s system either.

Manchester City star Phil Foden had failed to adapt to Southgate’s methods as comfortably as Bukayo Saka has, for instance.

There will certainly be a sense of dissatisfaction within the England camp in the wake of last night’s game, and Rice was unable to even contain his anger on the pitch

Arsenal star Declan Rice spotted screaming at England goalkeeper during Euro 2024 clash

There was a lack of cohesion to England’s play against the Danes. Far too many simple passes went astray, whilst there was also a proliferation of hopeful long balls being launched aimlessly up the pitch.

The latter of these occurrences provoked Rice’s ire, as he took issue with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford at one stage.

As spotted by former England winger Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking on talkSPORT (21/06/2024, 09:27): “Pickford wanted to get the ball and kick it quickly long. Declan Rice was screaming at him, saying calm down, play it short. You were seeing a bit of like arguing between the players as well. That’s not a good sign.”
