Gabriel Jesus began his Arsenal career in style with a fantastic brace yesterday, and his performance made one reporter call him a ‘superstar’ after the game.

The Brazilian was Mikel Arteta’s number one target in this summer’s transfer window. Edu Gaspar was locked in negotiations with Manchester City for weeks, but he finally sealed the deal earlier this week.

Arsenal completed the signing of Jesus for £45 million five days ago (Guardian), and Gooners already love him – not just because of his quality on the pitch but also for how humble he is off it.

After his debut yesterday, a journalist called Jesus the ‘main man’ and ‘superstar’ of the team. Arsenal fans will love the Brazilian’s incredibly humble response.

“I don’t want to be the superstar, you know?” Jesus said, as per HaytersTV.

“I just want to play football, go out on the pitch and help my teammates, like a family. We have to do it together.

“I’m not here to be ‘the man’. I’m here to help, to learn with these guys as well, and to win together.”

The Insider’s View:

This is exactly the mentality we need at Arsenal.

It’s not just the quality of the player on the pitch, it’s the attitude behind the scenes as well. Arteta has always been a huge advocate of that, and Jesus will fit in nicely in our squad.

Yesterday’s game against Nurnberg was only a friendly, and the result shouldn’t be taken seriously at all. However, it’s difficult to not be excited about the way the Brazilian played up top.

Jesus really does look like the missing piece in our puzzle. He completely turned the game on its head yesterday, and we can’t wait to see what else he, and everyone else, has got in store for us in the coming weeks and months.
