Gabriel Martinelli has made a good name for himself as a left winger at Arsenal.

The Brazil international initially arrived at the Emirates Stadium as a centre-forward, and he did well in that role under Unai Emery as well.

However, under Mikel Arteta, Martinelli has mostly played as a left-winger, and he has produced a number of incredible moments as well.

Now, with Brazil at the World Cup, the Arsenal number 11 has offered to play on the opposite side.

Is Gabriel Martinelli the best Brazilian in the Premier League right now? If not, who is?

Gabriel Martinelli says he is ready to play as a right winger for Brazil

Gabriel Martinelli has a lot of competition in the Brazil squad.

The Arsenal star has to compete with Vinicius Jr on the left flank and Raphinha on the other side, while the likes of Matheus Cunha and Endrick are contenders to play in the middle.

Even Neymar is back fit and available for Brazil now, which adds further competition in the attacking areas of the squad.

Raphinha, however, is now sidelined due to a hamstring injury, and that opens the door for someone else to start in his place.

Martinelli has thrown his hat in the ring.

He said, as per Sportwitness: “First of all, we’re sad about what happened to Raphinha and we’re praying for him to return as quickly as possible. We have a lot of quality players in attack.

“I prefer playing on the left, but at Arsenal I’ve played a lot on the right. I also played on the right against France under Carlo Ancelotti. I’ll leave it in the manager’s hands. He decides.

“It’s very different. Every team has its own way of playing. When I play on the right wing for Arsenal, it’s completely different from playing on the right wing here. It depends on who is beside me and the formation we’re using.

“It’s much easier to receive the ball on the right, go to the byline and cross. Or come inside and allow the full-back to overlap. It depends on the formation and the player next to me.”

Gabriel Martinelli’s best position is not on either wing

There has been a lot of debate over Martinelli’s position over the years.

The Brazil international is capable of playing anywhere across the frontline, and has had success in all three positions as well.

Arteta has been adamant that Martinelli’s future is on the left wing, but we disagree.

We think the former Ituano man has the quality and skills to become a superstar in a centre-forward role in a free-flowing system.

For that, however, Martinelli may have to leave Arsenal.
