Arsenal star is now ‘proving everybody wrong’ after ‘remarkable’ West Ham display

Arsenal secured their biggest Premier League win of the season on Sunday against West Ham, and Mikel Arteta has been quick to praise Bukayo Saka.

The 22-year-old winger was one of the many stars of the show in east London, with Saka scoring a brace and running West Ham’s defence ragged in what was an incredible display from the England international.

With Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard all impressing on the day, it was one of Arsenal’s best performances in some time against a West Ham side who failed to turn up.

And speaking to the press via Arsenal’s official website, Arteta was full of praise for Saka, with the manager noting that the forward is proving doubters wrong.

Indeed, Saka has had his critics this season after certain patches of poor form, yet the attacker showed against West Ham why he is now one of Arsenal’s best players and one of the most dangerous wingers in the world.

Arteta said when asked about Saka: “That at his age, in the position and consistency [he shows] – normally they don’t go in the same line – he’s proving everybody wrong and [showing] he can do it.

“What he has done today as well I had doubts that he was going to take the penalty or not because of what happened [last season], but it shows as well how mature he is and how determined he is as well to go to the next level.”

Lauded by Arteta as ‘remarkable’, it’s no real shock that the Arsenal manager is heaping so much praise on Saka, who yesterday passed the 100-goal contribution mark for the Gunners in all competitions.

The England international has often faced adversity in his career from missing the penalty in Euro 2020 final shootout to disappearing in occasional big games for Arsenal.

Yet as Arteta said, Saka is now proving doubters wrong and taking his game to new levels, with few attackers in the Premier League as efficient or as potent as Saka.

Indeed, the 22-year-old is only getting started in his career, and Arsenal can count their lucky stars that Saka is here to stay for the upcoming years, where the forward can create even more history.
