Arsenal will need to make progress yet again this season.
Arsenal have developed and improved year-on-year under Mikel Arteta, since his appointment at the Emirates Stadium in December 2019.
The Gunners have gone from finishing eighth in the Premier League to being considered genuine title contenders, following back-to-back second-place finishes.
The North London outfit will be looking to go one step better this time around. Ian Wright backed Arsenal to win the league.
A number of players have also improved on an individual level under the Spanish coach’s guidance. For instance, the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Ben White, Martin Odegaard, and Bukayo Saka have all come on leaps and bounds whilst working with Arteta.
However, Odegaard remains convinced that he can still take further strides forward himself.
Arsenal ace Martin Odegaard outlines personal aim
The Norwegian playmaker is hugely important to Arsenal. The captain is both a leader off the ball, orchestrating the team’s press, and pulls the strings for his side in the final third whilst they are on the attack.
However, given he is still just 25-years-old, Odegaard still ought to be able to add to him game.
Speaking to the official Arsenal website, the midfielder revealed his ambition to keep raising his own game.
He said: “Personally, I’m proud to have been nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award, but I’ve set myself a lot of targets to improve this season. There is always room to improve my game, and I know there a lot of things I can do better with and without the ball.
“That’s the mindset we all have here, and Mikel is always pushing for more from us. I think in every aspect of my game I can do better, and I can dominate games more with the ball and win possession more when I’m without it. So there is a lot I need to work on this season.”
Ally McCoist expects Odegaard to win the Player of the Season award on this occasion, and certainly if he gets his hands on that individual honour then it will mean that he has once against sparkled for the Gunners throughout the season.
Odegaard sends message to Wolves star
Arsenal will get their Premier League season underway against Wolves at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and Odegaard is sure to start.
He may well find himself coming up against Norway international colleague Jorgen Strand Lasen, who joined Wolves on loan from Celta Vigo earlier this summer.
Odegaard sent a playful message to the Wolves ace ahead of this clash.
