Arsenal star Gabriel Magalhaes has been earning plaudits for his excellent performance against Liverpool on Saturday.
The centre-back is often overlooked for praise when compared to his partner William Saliba, but he delivered a masterclass at Anfield, opening the scoring early on before helping Mikel Arteta’s side secure a point to stay top of the Premier League.
The 26-year-old has helped form the best defence in the Premier League alongside Saliba, and is perhaps performing at an even higher level than last season.
His performance on Merseyside has helped highlight just how good he has been in this campaign, and his overall displays this season have now been praised.
Gabriel Magalhaes praised after Liverpool draw
Journalist James Benge has now praised the centre-back, claiming that his performances all season have been outstanding.
“Gabriel Magalhaes is having a monstrously good season,” Benge posted on X, after Gabriel headed past Alisson early on to give Arsenal the lead.
Gabriel has made 25 appearances all season, after being surprisingly benched for the opening few games of the campaign, and he has been a consistent figure in the backline.
The Brazil international was excellent at Anfield, as he helped limit the hosts’ chances in addition to his well-taken goal.
Gabriel rose well above Ibrahima Konate to power a header home above the head of his International teammate in goal, who was caught in no-man’s-land as he watched the ball hit the back of the net.
Why Gabriel is so important to Arsenal

Gabriel has had an impeccable fitness record this season, playing 90 minutes in all of his starts, and is also performing consistently well.
His influence in the team is growing as he has become a vocal leader at the back, and at 26, he is now one of the senior players in the squad, having joined in 2020.
He is the perfect partner for Saliba, as he provides aerial threat and aggression within Arsenal’s defence.
In addition to his excellent defensive ability, Gabriel now has more goals than any other defender in the Premier League since his arrival, and his aerial presence in both boxes is vital.
After receiving criticism for several mistakes at the start of last season, he has become an almost undroppable player, and one that Arteta can rely on to continue performing well for the rest of the season as Arsenal find themselves in a title race.
