Arsenal are on the market looking for a new sporting director.

Edu Gaspar resigned from his role at Arsenal in the first week of November. That came as a real shock to the entire fan base, but the decision was made and he is no longer a part of the Gunners.

Arsenal did a lot of good work under Edu. He started this project with Mikel Arteta, and replacing him will not be easy by any means.

The Gunners have been linked with several sporting directors over the last few weeks. An update has now emerged about one of them.

Arsenal and Tomas Rosicky in talks over sporting director role

Tomas Rosicky has been linked with the sporting director role at Arsenal after Edu walked away earlier in November.

The former Czech international spent a decade as a Gunner, playing 246 times in all competitions under Arsene Wenger during his time at the club.

Rosicky was even a former teammate of Arteta at Arsenal, and the two always shared a great relationship on and off the pitch.

Now 44, Rosicky is the sporting director of his boyhood club Sparta Prague, a role he has held since December 2018.

Now, L’Equipe have claimed that Arsenal favour the Czech as they search for successors to Edu’s throne, and the report reveals that ‘discussions’ have started between the two parties.

Rosicky was and is still a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium, and reports about his return to the club are definitely exciting.

However, it remains to be seen if the talks will materialise into something concrete in the coming weeks.

How has Rosicky fared as Sparta Prague’s sporting director?

When Rosicky was appointed as Sparta Prague’s sporting director in December 2018, the club had dropped points in 10 of their first 23 games in all competitions.

Sparta finished third in the Czech league that season and then gradually closed the gap with Slavia Prague in the following campaigns.

Rosicky’s brilliance then helped Sparta win back-to-back league titles in 2022/23 and 2023/24. They even made it into the main draw of the Champions League for the first time in 19 years.

The brilliant work Rosicky has done at his boyhood club is there for everyone to see. But, whether that is enough for him to get the massive job at Arsenal is anyone’s guess at this moment in time.
