PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo has claimed that he has been trying to copy Arsenal legend Thierry Henry to improve his game.

The Dutchman is one of the hottest prospects in Europe at the moment. He has been linked with a whole host of clubs over the past few months, including Arsenal, and he’ll be at the Emirates this week.

Arsenal target Cody Gakpo says he has been trying to ‘copy’ Thierry Henry

Gakpo is PSV’s best player.

The 23-year-old has been absolutely sensational since the start of this season, directly contributing to 24 goals in just 18 appearances – one more than Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland.

It’s almost certain that he will be on the move in one of the next two transfer windows, and Arsenal, who need a new winger, should be looking at him – especially as he’s trying to ‘copy’ Henry’s game.

Gakpo said in an interview with The Times this week: “I’m a tall winger, but when you look for tall wingers there aren’t so many, so a few years ago I started watching Henry.

“He was more of a striker, but he was also tall and he liked to play off the side like me, so I watched clips of him and tried to learn something from him: the way he comes in from the left and shoots with his right.

“I don’t know if it’s working, but I tried to copy him a bit.”

The Insider’s View:

Arsenal’s first-choice wingers at the moment are Gabriel Martinelli on the left and Bukayo Saka on the right. Both of them are truly world-class and irreplaceable at the Emirates.

However, if something happens to them, we’re down to Reiss Nelson and young Marquinhos. That drop in level is absolutely huge and frankly, a very worrying sign.

Arsenal should be able to get through to January without too many problems, but Mikel Arteta and Edu simply have to bring in a new wide player in the winter window.

We’ve been linked with a whole host of names over the last few months, but our pick would definitely be Gakpo, who is set to start against Arsenal at the Emirates in the Europa League tomorrow.
