Arsenal are aiming to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title this season, after coming close in the last two years.

Mikel Arteta’s side finished just two points behind the Champions last season despite performing superbly, and they are aiming to go one step better to lift the trophy this time.

Arsenal are in a great position to challenge, with Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber strengthening the defensive depth, and Mikel Merino potentially joining from Real Sociedad.

A 2-0 victory over Wolves got Arsenal off to a strong start this season, and many are now backing them for the title. However, there is one potential obstacle which could prevent them from succeeding.

Jamie Redknapp backs Arsenal for title if key players stay fit

Speaking on Sky Sports, pundit Jamie Redknapp backed Arsenal to beat Man City to the title, unless they pick up injuries.

“I do have a feeling for Arsenal. I think they’re ready. I think they’ve been exceptional these last couple of years and it’s been very unfortunate that they’ve been up against the Manchester City juggernaut, at the end of the season, who just timed their run perfectly,” he stated.

“I have a real feeling that Arsenal are going to not just push them all the way actually, I think they pip them this year and I love what they’re doing.

“They had a great start to the season, big win yesterday, players bang in form. As long as they stay injury-free, I’m just going to go for Arsenal.”

Which Arsenal players need to stay fit to win the title?

Arsenal are well-stocked in depth in a lot of positions, but there are still a few players they simply cannot afford to lose.

William Saliba is one. Despite having a lot of depth at the back with Jurrien Timber and Ben White among those who can step in if he is absent, the Frenchman is a crucial figure. Arsenal’s title challenge two seasons ago fell apart as soon as he picked up a long-term injury.

Declan Rice is also a crucial figure in midfield, but the arrival of Merino could ensure that he has more depth, with Thomas Partey also back from injury to add options in midfield.

Bukayo Saka is Arsenal’s talisman, and the club could yet add to their attacking options in the transfer window to provide extra cover for him, with the England star seldom rotated in the last few years, but no matter who else comes in, a Saka injury could be a huge blow to any title hopes.
