A disastrous few weeks has seen Arsenal give up an advantageous position in the title race, and many have questioned whether they are still in contention.
Back-to-back defeats against West Ham and Fulham saw Arsenal drop down from first place to fourth, and there were incredibly worrying signs in both games as Mikel Arteta’s side failed to deliver in both boxes.
However, there is still plenty of quality within the Arsenal squad, even if several key players are currently off form, and over halfway through the season, the Gunners are still just five points behind leaders Liverpool.
The potential for January transfers is limited, so any solution to Arsenal’s problems would have to be found internally, but they cannot be counted out just yet.
Arsenal have two ways back into the Premier League title race
Journalist Sami Mokbel has now highlighted two big reasons why Arsenal are still in the title race, and claimed that internal improvements can see the side recover their form to challenge again.
“If Gabriel Jesus can rediscover his goalscoring form then they have a chance,” he stated in the Daily Mail.
“Defensively they are sound – William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes are arguably the best central defensive partnership in the Premier League.
“If the team can deliver in attack then the title is still on.”
Arsenal’s problem is not a lack of quality

Many have questioned Arsenal’s problems going forward, but it is a lack of cohesion and form which has led to a struggle for goals, rather than a lack of quality.
The likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard were all sensational in attack last season, and were of a good enough quality to win the title, as Arsenal came close before losing William Saliba to injury.
These players have been criticised, and have failed to hit top form, but they did not suddenly become below-par footballers overnight.
Calls for Arsenal to sign a striker to replace Jesus may be premature, and there is little chance that the club will be able to do much business in the January window anyway.
If the Brazilian can find his best form, whilst the defensive pairing of Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes remains strong, then Arsenal could easily find themselves close to the top within weeks of recovering from their mid-season malaise.
Arsenal have somewhat favourable fixtures against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest up next after the mid-season break, and if the refreshed squad can pick up wins, they can kick-start their season again.
