Arsenal told their player is ‘probably the best’ in the world at his role, Rio Ferdinand won’t like it

Arsenal are the team to beat in Europe right now, so it’s unsurprising that several of Mikel Arteta’s players are considered to be up there with the world’s best.

Sitting top of the Premier League and Champions League table, Arteta has built a team of superstars hungry to win silverware.

One of the most significant improvements the Arsenal manager has made to the squad he inherited from Unai Emery in 2019 is in defence. 

It’s not only William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes who have made Arsenal’s defence better, but the full-backs too, with Jurrien Timber undoubtedly one of the best players at the club.

Tim Sherwood calls Jurrien Timber the best full-back in the world

Timber arrived at Arsenal as a centre-back, but has rapidly become one of the best full-backs in the Premier League.

It’s a credit to the Dutchman that his versatility can unlock such strengths for Arsenal, with some even believing that Timber is one of the world’s best.

Gary Neville speculated that Timber is the best full-back in the world right now, and Tim Sherwood absolutely agrees.

Praising Arsenal’s squad depth when speaking on Sky Sports, Sherwood stated the following:

“Timber is probably the best full-back in the world. They have everything.”

There are few players as consistently brilliant as Timber, not just in the Arsenal squad but in the Premier League, making Sherwood’s comment unsurprising.

While Arsenal fans are in awe of what the 2023 signing has been doing this season, one figure has already made it clear that he disagrees with both Neville and Sherwood.

Rio Ferdinand doesn’t think Timber is the best

Soon after Neville made his thoughts on Timber clear, his former teammate, Rio Ferdinand, responded.

Unlike Neville and now Sherwood, Ferdinand doesn’t think Timber is the world’s best, and instead named three players he believed to be better than Arsenal’s Dutchman.

“I think Timber’s top. But the best fullbacks in the world are PSG, who got the best two in the world, and I think Reece James is probably, Reece James is up there without a doubt.”

In Ferdinand’s eyes, Nuno Mendes, Achraf Hakimi and Reece James are better than Timber right now.

With Arsenal set to face Chelsea next in the Premier League, James and Timber will be analysed, where Arteta’s signing will hope to come out on top with a win.
