Former Wimbledon midfielder Robbie Earle has now highlighted one concern he has with Arsenal in the Premier League title race this season.

Arsenal are currently sat at the top of the Premier League table, with just ten games left to go in the campaign.

Mikel Arteta led the Gunners back into title contention for the first time last season. Ultimately, though, the north London club stumbled on the final straight and were pipped to the post by Manchester City.

In the run-in this season, we will discover just how many lessons Arsenal have learned from the pain of the previous campaign. Certainly, Arsenal look more solid this season. On current form, they are also the best team in the Premier League. Since the turn of the year, they have won eight consecutive top flight matches.

In the new year, Arteta took his Arsenal squad on a mid-season trip to Dubai. The warm weather training and time away clearly did the group the world of good. Since their return from the Gulf state, the Gunners have looked utterly unstoppable.

However, they are currently only in pole position on goal difference. Liverpool are level with them on points, with 64 to their name. Meanwhile, reigning champions Manchester City have 63 points under their belt.

Manchester City backed for title triumph over Arsenal for one reason

Manchester City and Liverpool both hold advantages over Arsenal. They have both won the Premier League title in recent years, under their current managers. They know what it takes to get over the line. Arsenal, meanwhile, haven’t been crowned champions of England in 20 years.

On top of that, the Merseyside outfit are currently riding the crest of an enormous emotional wave, as they know that this will be Jurgen Klopp’s final season in charge at Anfield. Pep Guardiola is chasing history too, as Manchester City would become the first side in Premier League history to win four titles on the bounce if they came out on top this time around.

Arteta will still believe that his side have what it takes to go all the way, though. Next time out in the Premier League, they will travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City. If the Gunners can take all three points from that match then that could have a huge bearing on the overall title race, and would absolutely put the north Londoners in the driver’s seat.

However, Robbie Earle has his doubts about Arsenal. Speaking on The 2 Robbies Podcast, he explained why he still has Manchester City down as favourites. He said, “the reason I can’t fully commit to Arsenal right now is we still don’t know. We’ve still never been there…it’s his [Arteta’s] first job, his first big rodeo, where they’re in it, in a three-horse race. They have learned. They’re better than last year. They’re more mature than last year, but there’s still a bit of a question mark…Pep Guardiola is the master. He’s done it, and is the reason why I say…I think come May 19th, I’ll be saying Manchester City are Premier League winners.”
