Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison has urged Arsenal to sign Ivan Toney in the upcoming January transfer window.

According to The Mirror, Arsenal are keen to secure the services of Brentford striker Ivan Toney in the winter window.

However, the Gunners will be aware that Toney won’t come to the Emirates Stadium cheaply. The Bees are thought to want around £65 million for their star man.

Clearly, striking a deal for the once-capped England man certainly presents some challenges for the Gunners, who would likely have to make some sacrifices in order to get an agreement sealed.

However, if Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu can engineer a deal for the £20,000-a-week goalscorer then they will have a major talent on their hands.

Toney was in prolific form last season. The 27-year-old bagged twenty Premier League goals over the course of the campaign.

Arsenal can show they mean business by signing Ivan Toney

Given there are doubts over whether Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah are clinical enough in front of goal to fire Arsenal to a title triumph, Toney would certainly represent an upgrade in that part of the pitch.

That being said, as the Brentford man is currently serving a ban for breaching betting rules, it has to be anticipated that the will take some time to get back to his best once he is free to return to top flight action in January.

Despite this concern, Clinton Morrison is still convinced that Toney is a must-buy for Arsenal in January. Speaking on Sky Sports, the former Crystal Palace forward said, “he’s the type of striker a lot of those top teams will be looking at because I think he’s outstanding. He can do the lot. He can score goals. He leads from the front…I think he’d be a good signing for Arsenal.”

Arsenal could send a clear message that they seriously mean business by signing Toney in January. It would make it plain to everyone that the north London club are willing to go all out to win the Premier League title this season.
