Arsenal will ‘try again’ to sign one Chelsea star they’re totally ‘convinced’ by

Journalist Sam Dean has now provided an insight into how Arsenal really feel about Mykhailo Mudryk.

Arsenal were willing to spend heavily to sign Mykhailo Mudryk in the last January transfer window, but were ultimately beaten to his signature by Chelsea, who secured the winger’s services for £88.5 million, as reported by Sky Sports

Since his big money move to Stamford Bridge, though, the Ukrainian ace has failed to live up to his price tag. With 38 appearances, across all competitions, for the west London outfit now under his belt, the 23-year-old has contributed just four goals and four assists.

Generally, Mudryk has looked short on confidence and has struggled to step up to the level of the Premier League.

However, there is talent there, that is for sure. Mudryk’s international teammate and Arsenal left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko has sung the player’s praises in the past and talked up his potential.

At one stage, at least, Mikel Arteta was also desperate to bring the player to the Emirates Stadium.

Journalist Sam Dean believes that that desire may well still exist. Speaking on Charles Watt’s Inside Arsenal YouTube channel, the reporter said, “Mudryk is a player who has a lingering value for them [Chelsea] because he cost so much, because he’s so young, and because he has potential. He’s been, obviously, very disappointing.”

“But Arsenal had done so much work on him, they were so convinced by him. I don’t think they’ll have watched the last year, at a chaotic Chelsea…and have totally changed their minds on him…I know for a fact, they think it would’ve been very different if he’d joined Arsenal in January…I still maintain…Arsenal will try again to take him off Chelsea’s hands.”

Will Arsenal try again to sign Mykhailo Mudryk?

Or course, this is conjecture, but it is clear that Arsenal rated Mudryk very highly and saw a promise in him that has yet to come to fruition at Chelsea. Certainly, if the Blues opted to cut their losses on the 16-cap Ukraine international, it is easy to imagine the Gunners making a play to finally get their hands on him.

It would be fascinating to see if Arteta could unlock Mudryk’s true potential. He has been able to get the best out of talented young wide players such as Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, and the Spanish coach will surely back himself to be able to inspire an upturn in Mudryk’s performances.

However, signing Mudryk at this stage would be a risky decision. Based on his performances for Chelsea, the player’s initial move to them rather than Arsenal must now be considered a dodged bullet for the Gunners. The Blues would surely have to be willing to sell Mudryk at a huge loss compared to what they paid for him for Arsenal to take a chance on him at this stage.
