Arsenal have several top young talents coming through the Hale End Academy, and some could be destined for the first team.

Ethan Nwaneri will aim to make his first start under Mikel Arteta, having come on as a substitute in an away North London derby victory, and he is highly regarded as the biggest talent in the Hale End Academy.

Several other players including Myles Lewis-Skelly have also impressed when selected in pre-season, and the academy is now thriving.

However, there is another talent younger than them who may even have more potential, in 14-year-old Max Dowman.

The winger is already playing several years above his age group and is rising in prominence within the academy.

Dowman just broke a club record, and now a UEFA record, as the teenager continues to grow in stature at Arsenal, and fans have begun to take notice.

Max Dowman becomes youngest scorer in UEFA Youth League history

The Arsenal under-21s began their UEFA Youth League campaign against Atalanta, whom the senior side will face in the Champions League but found themselves 3-0 down to the Italian side.

Dowman started the game, breaking an Arsenal record as he became the youngest starter in the club’s history in the competition, at 14 years, eight months and 19 days.

Dowman then pulled a goal back, finishing from a cross from Ismeal Kabia, and this goal was a significant one, as it makes him the youngest goalscorer in the history of the entire UEFA Youth League.

Dowman’s goal meant that he overtook Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Youssoufa Moukoko as the youngest scorer in the competition, with the Arsenal starlet two months younger than Moukoko when he first struck.

There are a lot of well-known names that Dowman has just eclipsed, including Lyon sensation Rayan Cherki, whom Thierry Henry once described as the best dribbler he has seen, Liverpool star Ryan Gravenberch, and AC Milan talent Francesco Camarda, who were all much older than Dowman when they first scored in the Youth League.

Arsenal truly have a gem on their hands, and they will hope that he can continue his development to eventually make his mark in the first team, but expectations should be tempered given his age.
