Tuttosport have released the 20-man shortlist for the prestigious Golden Boy award for 2019. The honour, previously won by the likes of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and most recently Matthijs de Ligt will pick its winner on the 16th of December and one Arsenal player has made the cut.
Matteo Guendouzi’s incredible rise to fame has deservedly been noticed as he becomes one among four Premier League players to make the shorlist. The Frenchman does not have much to show for in terms of goals or assists but his performances on the pitch speak volumes in itself.
Every Arsenal fan would love for Guendouzi to win it in December but it will not be easy considering his competitors. Jadon Sancho, Joao Felix, Kai Havertz and former winner Matthijs de Ligt remain the favourites but the Arsenal man has a strong chance.
Guendouzi has had a remarkable start to the season and has arguably been Arsenal’s best player alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The 20-year-old also recently earned his first senior call-up and if he continues his good performances, there is no reason why he shouldn’t be crowned the Golden Boy.
Mason Mount, Phil Foden and Moise Kean join Guendouzi to be the others in contention from the Premier League. Other young stars include Ansu Fati, Vinicius Junior, Alphanso Davies and Nicolo Zaniolo who are all touted to be the next big thing in the world of football.
