Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli tweets about the true extent of his injury

One of Arsenal’s only positives in last night’s defeat against Manchester City was the return of Gabriel Martinelli. The young Brazilian started his first game for us since March, and he looked absolutely brilliant.

Martinelli’s first half performance last night was arguably the best by an Arsenal attacker this season. He looked a constant threat and his pressing gave City’s defenders very little time to breathe.

The former Ituano forward also set up Alexandre Lacazette’s equaliser. His cross for the goal was fantastic, and that gave Arsenal fans some hope about a possible result against the reigning League Cup winners.

However, we were dealt a massive blow just before the break. Martinelli was on the wrong end of a strong tackle from Manchester City keeper Zack Steffan.

The youngster rolled around in agony and it wasn’t a pretty sight. Martinelli’s initial reaction made it look like he had hurt himself really badly. Supporters feared the absolute worst for the teenager who had just come back after a six-month spell on the sidelines.

He hobbled off just a few minutes into the second half and that worried fans even more. Thankfully, it hasn’t turned out to be an issue. Martinelli has tweeted out that he is fine and is raring to go again.

That is a massive relief for all of us. Martinelli was our best player yesterday by a country mile. He offers a lot of energy on the pitch and that could be the spark we need to get out of the slump we are currently in.

Arsenal have another massive game coming up in the Premier League this weekend. Title contenders Chelsea travel to the Emirates and Arteta will know that a win would completely change the mood around the club.

Martinelli has good memories against Chelsea. He ran the length of the pitch to score against the Blues last season and that goal won him the Goal of the Season award. He will be hoping that he can do the same again this weekend, and if he does, we will have a good chance of ending our terrible run.
