Arsenal have done well with respect to getting rid of our highest earners, but how does our wage bill compare to other top clubs in the Premier League?
The Gunners were constantly in the news a few years ago for offering outrageous contracts to the likes of Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – both players were on £350,000-a-week deals.
Only a handful of players have huge salaries at Arsenal now, and that has brought down our wage bill quite considerably.

Arsenal’s wage bill compared to Man City, Man Utd, Tottenham and Liverpool
The Daily Mail have revealed every top English club’s wage bill for the 2022/23 campaign except Chelsea because the Blues haven’t disclosed their figures just yet.
Manchester United have the highest wage bill in the country – a staggering £384 million. That’s a 44 per cent increase on their salary expenses back in 2017, which was £264 million.
To many people’s surprise, Liverpool are second on the list – not Manchester City. The Reds’ wage bill has gone up by 75 per cent since 2017 – from £208 million to an eye-watering £366 million.
Pep Guardiola’s side are next with a wage bill of £364 million – just £90 million more than what they used to pay back in 2017 (£264m).
Chelsea haven’t disclosed their figures for this season yet, but it was £333 million last term and we’re almost certain it’ll be more than that this time around.
You may think Arsenal come next, but no, it’s Tottenham. Spurs have a wage bill of £209 million – a 66 per cent increase on the £127 million they used to pay six years ago.
Arsenal have the lowest wage bill out of the traditional top six clubs in England – £206 million. That’s just £11 million more than what we were paying back in 2017.

Arsenal’s highest earners in 2023
Gabriel Jesus is Arsenal’s highest-paid player at the moment. He signed a £265,000-a-week contract following his move from Manchester City last summer (Spotrac).
Thomas Partey comes next with a £200,000-a-week salary (Spotrac). He joined us back in 2020 from Atletico Madrid.
Gabriel Martinelli is the third-highest-paid player at Arsenal following his new contract. The Sun report he’s earning £180,000-a-week at the Emirates now.
Bukayo Saka is expected to sign a new deal soon and he may sign a contract that could easily take him to the top of this list.
