Andrei Arshavin is supposed to have “warned” Arsene Wenger he may quit becauase he is “glued to the bench” – but it won’t be in the January window. So despite this perceived threat, the story is that he is not leaving.
AA23 told the Telegraph (amongst others): “Right now I don’t think about changing clubs. If I will be benched for a very long time, then such an issue might be relevant.”
He added: “I still want to play for 90 minutes but now I am glued to the bench. I wouldn’t like to play for a Russian club other than Zenit and there were no contacts with Anzhi.”
And he has also said on his personal website that he is going nowhere this season. Admittedly, he may well have to improve on the pitch if he wants to stay. We were told this week that the only player who doesn’t do extra work after training (in the gym) is the wee Ruskie. And he has been called “lazy” once or twice, let’s us face it.
The Sun uses quotes from the saem interview, presumably, to tell us that AW is unwilling to take advice from anyone else at the club. He added: “When you have a mundane, domestic problem, he’s always very supportive. But when it comes to Arsenal, no one would dare approach him with questions about football or suggestions to change something round. Everyone knows what the answer would be.
“We’ve never had the ‘big talk’, although I have voiced my opinion a couple of times. He smiled in an understanding way but he has his own ideas.”
All harmless, really.
Meanwhile, the Mirror reports that Wellington Silva wants to end his loan spell at Levante after a Twitter row.
The paper says Brazilian forward Wellington, 18, is fed-up at not getting a chance in the Levante first team and tweeted his frustrations despite being asked to stop spending so much time on social networking sites.
Wellington could now come back to Arsenal in January and then they would loan him out for the rest of the campaign as it is believed there is interest from France, Greece and Brazil, claism the paper.
