Arteta says Arsenal player who scored yesterday could start against Burnley

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta spoke to Sky Sports ahead of his side’s Premier League clash against Burnley on Sunday.

We finished on top of our Europa League group after winning every single game. Goals from Eddie Nketiah, Mohamed Elneny, Joe Willock and Folarin Balogun gave us the win yesterday, and the four scorers have given Arteta something to think about.

The Gunners need to bounce back in the Premier League immediately. We have won just once since the start of November, and a couple more defeats could push us down to the bottom three.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been moved to a number nine role to help end his goal drought. Our skipper has scored just twice in the league this term, and a change in position hasn’t quite helped.

Alex Lacazette has been moved to a number 10 position, and frankly, it suits him. The Frenchman is expected to retain that role against Burnley on Sunday, but could Eddie Nketiah get the nod too? Arteta says he has a chance.

Arteta: Nketiah could start on Sunday

He said: “Since we decided to keep Eddie at the club and not send him on loan [last January], the main reason was we saw his hunger and his ability to score goals consistently.”

“He has been doing that since he has been with the first team he is performing really well, last night [against Dundalk] he was a threat all the time and he has chances, like everyone else, to start the game on Sunday.”

Nketiah, surprisingly, is our top scorer this season. The young Englishman has scored five times already, and it wouldn’t be a bad shout to give him a start in the Premier League on Sunday.

Aubameyang could return to his left-wing role and Bukayo Saka could start on the right. Lacaztte could play just behind Nketiah, and that would be a very exciting front four for us against Burnley this weekend.
