Mikel Arteta has been told that he is not getting the best out of Arsenal ace Leandro Trossard.
Leandro Trossard has been in fine form for Arsenal in recent weeks, being utilised in a central role, leading the line in the absence of Gabriel Jesus.
The Belgian attacker scored crucial goals against Sevilla and Burnley, and has generally impressed as a striker.
The £27 million former Brighton and Hove Albion man is certainly versatile, able to play anywhere across the front line.
However, Trossard’s former coach, Jacky Mathijssen, is adamant that the player is at his best in one specific role.
As quoted by Het Belang van Limburg, the coach said, “if you look purely at his footballing qualities, there is no doubt that that [on the left wing] is where he performs best. There he can get onto the ball and break away from marker…he can operate between the lines and play through balls, deliver crosses or shoot dangerously on goal.”
Mathijssen also dubbed Trossard “among the best in Europe.”
However, Trossard will struggle to make the left-wing berth at the Emirates Stadium his own whilst Gabriel Martinelli is fit and available. Mikel Arteta clearly sees the Brazilian as the first choice in that position.

Leandro Trossard rising up Arsenal pecking order
For all his quality, Trossard will have to satisfy himself with a rotational role at Arsenal, where he may be asked to fill in in a variety of positions.
It shows how far Arsenal have come under Arteta that they can justify having a player with the 28-year-old’s ability not be a fixture of the regular starting XI. It is vital to have quality strength in depth in order to compete at the upper end of the Premier League table over the course of a full season, and the Gunners now have that.
Despite Mathijssen’s protestations, Arteta will feel that he is getting the best out of Trossard. The £90,000-a-week ace has certainly managed to have a sizeable impact since joining the north London club in January.
With 36 Arsenal appearances now under his belt, across all competitions, Trossard has managed to rack up seven goals and twelve assists. He has quickly become a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium, impressing with his technical ability and tactical intelligence.
Trossard may well have taken a step up the pecking order as a striker following his recent performances. Whilst Eddie Nketiah is a hard-working and capable striker, Trossard makes the Gunners’ attacking contingent more cohesive as a whole when he is on the pitch than the Hale End academy graduate does.
Despite not being the first choice in his apparent best position at Arsenal, Trossard will still get plenty of game time and play a key role under Arteta this season.
