Arteta told to start £27m Arsenal ace over Havertz amid Jesus injury fears

Ally McCoist wants to see Leandro Trossard leading the line for Arsenal if Gabriel Jesus is set for another spell on the sidelines.

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus sustained an injury late on against Sevilla last night. After the match, Mikel Arteta said, “we’re really sad because he felt something in his hamstring, and he had to come off and I’m worried about that,” as quoted by the club’s official website.

If the Gunners are set to be without the Brazilian for a spell, Eddie Nketiah may expect to be called upon to deputise in his stead. However, the 24-year-old has not been in great form of late.

Equally, £65 million summer signing Kai Havertz could perform a target man role. Though, with Martin Odegaard somewhat out of sorts and Thomas Partey also facing fitness issues, the German may well be needed to feature within the midfield contingent.

Former Rangers striker Ally McCoist wants to see Leandro Trossard given the chance to spearhead the Arsenal attack, ahead of either Nketiah or Havertz.

Speaking on talkSPORT (25/10/2023, 06:39), the Scot said, “I like Trossard, I think he’s a good signing, I think they definitely fancy him.”

Trossard has been in excellent form so far this season, and arguably deserves more game time. It has been. suggested that the versatile Belgian can’t possibly be happy with his current level of involvement under Arteta.

However, Trossard’s worst showing this season came when he was used a starting striker against Fulham. The £27 million ace was hauled off at half time that day. There is not much existing evidence that Trossard is a good fit for the striking role at Arsenal.

The truth is, no matter who Arteta picks to fill in, Jesus will be missed. Though, even the former Manchester City man has his critics. There is certainly a concern that he is too wasteful in front of goal to be the main man firing Arsenal to glory. As McCoist stated, “I do like Jesus, I really like him, but I still think they’re lacking an out-and-out centre-forward, somebody that will get them 25 [goals], you know?”
