Jodi Jones might not be a name that Arsenal fans are familiar with, yet the 26-year-old is certainly becoming a household name amongst EFL supporters.

The Maltese international is currently plying his trade with Notts County, playing alongside former Arsenal wonderkid Dan Crowley in the English fourth-tier having gained promotion last year.

An outside contender for a playoff spot, it’s been quite the year for Jones at Notts County, who last weekend made English football history with quite an insane record.

As per the Oxford Mail, Jones made history by bagging his 18th league assist of the season, teeing up Crowley in what was to be a 3-1 home loss against Gillingham.

Jones’ contribution made history as the winger broke the record for the most assists in a single League Two season, an incredible feat given that there is more than a third of the campaign left to play.

Indeed, the insane feat is one that should be celebrated, and it’s one that might not have even happened had Jones chosen a different career path in football with Arsenal or West Ham.

In an interview with Coventry City’s official website, the winger revealed that he rejected both Premier League teams during his younger years, a decision that seems to have gone down well.

Jodi Jones’ should be a massive inspiration

Jones took a massive gamble in rejecting Arsenal and West Ham when he was younger to take the more unorthodox route into football that has been trodden by the likes of Jamie Vardy and Michail Antonio.

Yet with the winger now a record-breaker in English football as well as a full international with Malta, it’s safe to say that Jones made the right call in life despite having big offers on the table.

And as a result, Jones’ story should be looked at as a massive source of inspiration for aspiring players looking to take a different route into football, with the attacker becoming a star and a history-maker with Notts County.
