If there was one thing that hurt more than the defeat to Tottenham on Sunday, it was Thomas Partey’s injury. The Ghanaian fought hard to get himself fit for the derby, but he could barely last the first half.
Mikel Arteta revealed in his press conference this week that Partey will miss the next few games due to injury. That is a massive blow for us ahead of the busy schedule coming up later this month.
Partey, in the few games he has played for us, has shown his class. His presence makes our midfield a lot more balanced, and our centre-halves get the protection they need when he starts in front of them.
His display against Manchester United at Old Trafford was arguably the best performance by an Arsenal midfielder against a big side in the Premier League over the last decade.
Partey hoping to be back ASAP
Partey will be a huge miss in the coming games and he is devastated too. The former Atletico Madrid man took to Instagram to send a message to Arsenal fans about life as a Gunner since his move back in October.
He revealed that Mikel Arteta’s influence played a massive part in convincing him to join us and claimed that he is confident that Arsenal are ‘building something good together’.
Partey’s injury really is bad luck. The Ghanaian was one of the fittest players in La Liga during his time in Spain.
The 27-year-old had missed just six games in his career before he joined us in the summer. He has missed four games at Arsenal already, five if you count this evening’s clash against Dundalk.
Arsenal fans will be hoping that Partey will be back as soon as possible. We have big games coming up against Manchester City and Chelsea around Christmas. If the Ghanaian can return by then, we will have a much better chance of getting a result, but it doesn’t look likely at the moment.
