‘Be cautious’: Arteta sends surprise warning to Arsenal and England fans regarding one player

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta urged the media and the fans to not put too much pressure on Bukayo Saka, in his post-match press conference.

The teenager was once again Arsenal’s best player on the pitch. Saka had a difficult first half but he burst onto the scene brilliantly in the second period. He played a huge part in Alexandre Lacazette’s opener and was involved in almost every one of our attacks.

Arsenal and England fans will be delighted with the youngster’s progression. Some are even calling him the best English talent out there, but Arteta has surprisingly told everyone to leave Saka alone.

He told Football London: “I would like everybody to be cautious and let him be and let him develop. I think he’s having the right progression. I think he’s got the right people around him in his house in his entourage.”

“And then he’s got the right teammates as well to support him all the time, give him confidence, keep his feet on the floor, but as well to give him support and confidence. And then hopefully we can be the right coaches around him, be the right club to see the player that he can be in the future.”

Arteta is spot on

How many times have we seen young talented players lose their way due to extremely high expectations. Just look at Theo Walcott. Don’t get us wrong, the Englishman has had a fine career at the top level, but pressure on his shoulders when he was still a kid made things extremely difficult for him.

Arsenal have an exciting bunch of youngsters coming through. Saka, Gabi Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock are all making a big impact with the senior squad.

The pressure of playing for Arsenal is big enough, but people calling you the best young talent in the country will raise the expectations even more, and that could prove to be a bit too much for their young shoulders.

As Arteta said, Saka has the right people around him. Everyone at the club is helping him develop while making sure he keeps his feet on the ground. That is the most important thing, and if he manages to do that, everything else will follow.
