Viktor Gyokeres is Arsenal’s marquee signing this summer.
The Gunners have needed a new striker since January 2022, when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the club after falling out with Mikel Arteta.
Edu Gaspar tried to land the likes of Dusan Vlahovic when he was at Fiorentina, Alexander Isak when he played for Real Sociedad and also Benjamin Sesko in 2024, but no deal materialised.
Andrea Berta, in his first window at Arsenal, has outdone Edu by signing a prolific striker, and fans are excited to see how Gyokeres will fare.
Ben Foster predicts how many goals Viktor Gyokeres will score for Arsenal in 2025/26
Viktor Gyokeres was the most prolific goalscorer in Europe over the last two seasons.
The Sweden international scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting CP, which is a sensational return, even though most of those strikes came in Portugal.
Arsenal have struggled for goals in recent years, with Bukayo Saka having to save them time and again. Last season, Mikel Merino was relied upon for goals after Kai Havertz’s injury.
The hope is that Gyokeres will end Arsenal’s problems in front of the net, and even if he scores just half the goals that he did at Sporting, it will fire the Gunners to the title.
Ben Foster, who has come up against some great strikers over the years, believes that Gyokeres will be a star for the Gunners.
The former goalkeeper said on his podcast: “I think he’ll do wonders for Arsenal next season. I think he’s exactly what they need. I like him a lot.
“20! He’s getting 20 next season. It has been an unreal transfer window for Arsenal, by the way.”
Speaking further about the striker, Foster said: “I think Gyokeres is probably the biggest signing for them.
“They’ve been crying out for years, everybody knows this as well, they’ve been crying out for that big guy, that main guy, that focal point, and it’s probably going to change the way Arsenal play a little bit, I wouldn’t say massively, but it will change the way they play a little bit, but I think that will benefit them as well.”
Viktor Gyokeres could end a long wait at Arsenal
Arsenal have had many great attackers over the years.
From Ian Wright and Thierry Henry to Robin van Persie and Alexis Sanchez, Arsene Wenger had some dangerous forwards at his disposal.
Mikel Arteta, however, hasn’t always had that luxury. The last Arsenal forward to score 20 goals in a single Premier League season was Aubameyang in 2019/20.
If Foster’s prediction comes true and Gyokeres scores 20 times in the upcoming campaign, he will end that six-year wait at the Emirates.
By doing so, he could also help end their 21-year wait to win the Premier League title.
