Benjamin Sesko has now publicly revealed why he decided against signing for Arsenal earlier this summer.
Arsenal were keen on Benjamin Sesko this summer.
The Slovenian striker is certainly an exciting prospect, and had Mikel Arteta’s attention.
Arsenal made an effort to sign Sesko. However, the forward ultimately shunned the Gunners’ advances and opted to instead sign a new contract with his current club, RB Leipzig.
The 21-year-old’s decision has meant that the North London club’s search for a new goalscorer endures. It has since been said that Arsenal have made Viktor Gyokeres a top target, following Sesko’s rejection.
Sesko has now explained why he chose not to make the move to the Emirates Stadium.

Benjamin Sesko explains decision against signing for Arsenal
Speaking to Nogomania, the 33-cap Slovenia international admitted: “I thought it through very well. I believe I made the right decision. I wanted to gain more experience, learn more, and not rush things. Leipzig is an excellent club that can provide what I need for the next step. Leipzig’s vision is clear; everything is geared towards growth, progress, and high goals. I felt it was right to decide this way.”
Sesko has sent a clear message to Arsenal with these comments.
What Arsenal must learn from failed Sesko transfer push
Sesko clearly felt that he stood a greater chance of getting regular football with RB Leipzig, where he is already an established starter, than he would at Arsenal.
Certainly, he would’ve arrived in North London already behind Kai Havertz in the pecking order, as the German has earned the right to begin the new campaign as the Gunners’ first choice striker.
As Arsenal have improved under Arteta, cementing themselves as a side capable of competing for the top prizes in the game, so it has become more difficult for players to break into the team. Given that Arteta prefers to buy younger players with potential, he may find that more and more targets knock him back just as Sesko did.
Young players with a high ceiling want and need to play regular football, and many may view the prospect of joining Arsenal at such a stage in their careers as being too risky, as they could easily find themselves playing second fiddle under Arteta.
