‘Big disappointment’: Why John Terry is unhappy with Thomas Tuchel after Max Dowman’s England omission

Max Dowman has not been included in England’s squad for the upcoming friendlies and John Terry believes Thomas Tuchel has got it wrong.

Despite only playing a handful of games for Arsenal, Dowman is very much the talk of football at the moment.

Some were expecting and perhaps hoping he’d be called into the latest England squad. Thomas Tuchel, though, has opted against it and John Terry believes it’s the wrong call.

If you’re Mikel Arteta, who are you starting at right-back in the Carabao Cup final – Jurrien Timber or Ben White?

John Terry wants Max Dowman at the World Cup

It’s interesting to see people clamouring for Dowman to be included in the England set up already.

We’ve seen this before with Theo Walcott and it didn’t work, while Wayne Rooney very much flourished, albeit he had more game-time.

Still, Terry believes Dowman should have been included in this squad and also be selected for the World Cup.

“The one big disappointment for me…I would have loved to have seen Max Dowman included in this England squad,” Terry admitted on TikTok.

“I know it’s early, I know he’s only played a couple of games. But for me, I would have him on the plane to the World Cup. I think he’s going to play some minutes for Arsenal towards the end of the season and I also think having someone like that, who’s completely different to anything else we’ve got in the squad is going to be vital.

“So, a little bit disappointed for him. I think these two games would have been perfect for him to come in and play a few games.”

Tuchel is right to not call on Max Dowman just yet

It’s an interesting point from Terry to suggest Dowman should get the nod and you can see some of the pros to him being selected.

In terms of just the experience of being around top players and setting the scene, Dowman may well have benefitted from an England call.

However, he is just 16 and ultimately, his time will come when ready. Dowman has years in front of him to make himself a regular for England but first he must get into the Arsenal XI on a regular basis, or at least consistently feature off the bench.

Right now, England have a raft of talent who play in a similar position to Dowman and that really is why he isn’t getting the nod just yet.

Rest assured, though, Dowman’s time will indeed come if he stays on this current path.
