'Big mistake', 'massively disappointing': Some Arsenal fans unhappy with Arteta's latest decision

Arsenal and Mikel Arteta announced their 25-man squad for the first half of this season’s Premier League. The players who have missed out will not be allowed to feature until February and the expected big name to be excluded from the list was Mesut Ozil.

The German hasn’t played a single minute of football since the lockdown. Ozil has been axed from the squad for reasons unknown, and that has divided the fan base. The former Real Madrid man has always had his critics, but nobody can deny his quality on the ball.

Looking Back At OUR Euro 2020 Predictions

Ozil, since his debut in 2013, has played over 250 games for us in all competitions, scoring 44 goals and providing 77 assists. He is arguably the most graceful player to play for us in the Emirates era, but things have turned sour behind the scenes, and it looks like he has played his last game for Arsenal.

Arteta’s decision to leave him out of the Premier League squad after excluding him from the Europa League list was the final nail in the coffin. Ozil will now have to decide his future. He can either see out his contract knowing very well he won’t play again, or he can find an agreement with the club to cut his stay short and move elsewhere.

That really is a shame. Arsenal’s squad at the moment is seriously lacking a player like Ozil. The Gunners lack creativity in the final third; something that was overly evident in our defeats to Manchester City at the weekend and at Liverpool before the break.

With Thomas Partey providing the solidity in front of defence that we have lacked for years, Ozil could have been the perfect option for us in the number 10 role, but that will not happen now.

Some Arsenal fans took to social media to have their say on the situation. Predictably, many supporters are disappointed and frustrated with how the club have treated Ozil.

Here’s how a few of them reacted on Twitter
