There have been some amazing Dutch players in the Premier League over the years.

Indeed, some of the league’s all-time greats have been Dutch – something Arsenal fans know all about.

The likes of Dennis Bergkamp, Marc Overmars and Robin van Persie are bona fide Premier League greats who played for both Arsenal and the Netherlands.

That trend has continued into the modern day as Jurrien Timber is now one of Arsenal’s most important players.

Speaking to ViaPlay, Sunderland star, Brian Brobbey, has made an interesting claim about Timber.

Brian Brobbey says Jurrien Timber is the Premier League’s best Dutch player

Brian Brobbey has named Jurrien Timber as the best Dutch player in the Premier League.

It is a bold call considering how much Dutch talent there is in the division right now.

Virgil van Dijk has been one of the league’s standout defenders for years and remains a key figure at Liverpool. Ryan Gravenberch is another key player at Liverpool, while Micky van de Ven and Tijjani Reijnders are also top operators.

From an Arsenal perspective, it is a huge compliment.

Timber has not always been in the spotlight this season, especially with injuries disrupting his rhythm in recent weeks, but those close to him clearly see his quality, and fans are appreciating him a lot more in his absence too.

He is comfortable in multiple positions across the back line, reads the game well, and is calm in possession. That combination makes him extremely valuable in a system like Mikel Arteta’s, where defenders are expected to contribute in build-up play as well as defensively.

Whether or not Timber is actually better than Van Dijk is up for debate, and this may just be a case of Brobbey praising a close friend whom he knows well from his time at Ajax, but the fact that Timber is even featuring in this sort of conversation is serious compliment in itself.
