Losing out on Rogers at the last minute was a big blow. There is no doubt about it.
People can say all they want about the fee being too much but the fact is that Arsenal tracked him all summer and then missed out when it came to the crunch.
This cannot happen again and according to reports from Dean Jones at Flashscore, Arsenal are now working to avoid that exact situation when it comes to Guimaraes.
It’s believed that the club are now pushing as hard as they can to land the Newcastle star and have no intention of leaving a gap open for someone else to swoop in.
There is an expectation that Arsenal get this deal done and while it could end up costing around the £80m mark, the Gunners are expected to pay up.
The Rogers deal is said to have left some at the club in shock and ultimately, given those who needed it a jolt up the backside to get future transfers completed.
Put simply, Arsenal cannot afford to let Guimaraes slip the net. If they do, then there’ll be serious questions from fans levelled at Andrea Berta.
