Bukayo Saka says he’s ‘happy’ for ‘amazing’ Arsenal teammate after what he did this season

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka had an outstanding season as his side challenged for the title but fell just short of Manchester City.

Saka was one of Arsenal’s best performers as he registered 34 goals and assists in all competitions, and by the end of the campaign, he was key part of a fully-firing front three alongside Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard.

Havertz joined from Chelsea last summer, and struggled in his first few months at Arsenal. Mikel Arteta then moved him to a centre-forward role in February, and he has been outstanding upfront since.

Both Saka and Havertz have come in for criticism at Euro 2024, with suggestions that Havertz could lose his spot as Germany’s striker after two quiet games, but the England star has now heaped praise on his Arsenal teammate.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Saka praised Havertz for what was overall a strong debut campaign at Arsenal before heading into the Euros.

“I am happy for him. He has had another amazing season as well and he has carried on the form as well,” Saka stated of Havertz.

Havertz started the Euros superbly after ending his Arsenal campaign well, scoring and assisting in Germany’s demolition of Scotland, but he now faces a fight to keep his place in the team.

There was a remarkable difference between Havertz’s record as a midfielder and the output he produced as a centre-forward.

In 12 Premier League starts as a striker, Havertz scored eight goals and provided seven assists, and this also included some vital strikes.

The last two weeks of the season saw Havertz assist the winning goal against Manchester United, and score the winner against Everton on the final day. This followed a brace against Chelsea and a goal and assist away at Tottenham Hotspur.

Havertz’s form has been so good that Arsenal may no longer look to sign a number nine, with the German set to lead the line for Arteta’s side from the start of next season.
