Bukayo Saka has made it into the England squad for this summer’s World Cup and Rio Ferdinand has hit back at those who are questioning the Arsenal man.

Saka’s return at the back end of this season has coincided with a great run for the Gunners.

Having helped sow up the league title, all eyes are on the Champions League final for Saka and after that, the World Cup.

Still, despite his and Arsenal’s success, Rio Ferdinand has still had to come out and defend the Gunners winger.

Rio Ferdinand justifies Bukayo Saka’s England selection

Thomas Tuchel’s England squad had far more talking points involved than Bukayo Saka getting selected.

Still, while speaking live on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand noticed some negativity towards Saka, which he quickly addressed.

“I can see there in the comments there saying that Saka has been poor this season and he gets in, but he’s finished the season well. Saka’s finished the season well and he’s finished in a championship winning team.

“His confidence will be sky-high and also he’s been out injured for a period of time. So he’ll have a bit more energy. There’s a lot of positives that go with Saka being in this World Cup.

“And by the way, he’s been one of England’s best performers over a long period of time now.”

Bukayo Saka’s England record says it all

For anyone to question Saka getting picked by Tuchel is utterly bizarre, frankly.

Saka is one of the premier wingers in world football and we’ve all seen with our eyes how good he’s been for both club and country.

Indeed, for England, he has already scored 14 goals in 48 appearances, assisting a further nine.

Furthermore, he’s scored seven from 12 in World Cup games or qualifiers, while he was also voted the England men’s player of the year in 2022 and 2023.

Needless to say, anyone picking at Saka being included is being ridiculous. And if these people are serious, then they need to go and look back at how good he is.
