Carragher shares why Arsenal players wouldn’t have felt bad after last night

Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal players would have been positive going into the dressing room despite not picking up a win against Crystal Palace at home last night.

The Gunners started the game really well and took the lead through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. It looked an easy game at that point, but we became complacent after that and Palace got back into the game.

Patrick Vieira’s men took advantage of two terrible mistakes and went ahead. It looked like the game would end 2-1 to Palace, but Alexandre Lacazette equalised with just a few seconds left on the clock.

Arsenal’s unbeaten run continues as a result but fans are far from happy. However, Carragher believes that the players wouldn’t have been too upset going back into the dressing room.

Carragher: Arsenal would’ve felt like they won more than just a point

The Liverpool legend said on Sky Sports Monday Night Football right after the game: “It is important, as it keeps the unbeaten run going. It’s still not a great result for Arsenal.

“But, I think sometimes when you score a last-minute goal, it won’t feel like three points, but it’s more than just a point because of the way you get the result. 

“Even though they didn’t play well Arsenal, there was an energy about them in the first 20 minutes. And then when Lacazette came on, there was actually something as soon as he came on. He won a corner and was lifting the crowd up. Trying to get it going. 

“And you see the reaction when the equalising goal went in. Sometimes even though it’s not a great result, it’s only a point, sometimes the feeling going into the dressing room and the training room, and the reactions of the players to the goal going in, you feel like there is something there.”

The result last night is absolutely unacceptable, but Carragher is right, it’s a lot better than a defeat. The last-minute equaliser showed that the players are prepared to fight till the very end, and that is a good sign.

However, results have to change before it’s too late. Three back-to-back wins gave us a lot of hope, but consecutive draws against Brighton and Palace show that there’s a long way to go before we can even get into the conversation of top-four.
