Chelsea star sends one-word message to £65m Arsenal ace after goalscoring display

Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has sent a message to Arsenal star Kai Havertz.

Arsenal midfielder Kai Havertz was on international duty for Germany on Saturday.

Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann took the unusual decision to play Havertz at left-back, as his side lost 3-2 to Turkey. Despite playing out of position, the 24-year-old was still able to get on the scoresheet.

However, plenty in the media felt that the experimental choice of deploying Havertz as a full-back did not work. It certainly isn’t something that this writer expects Mikel Arteta to ever consider trying.

That being said, Arteta and the Arsenal fans will be glad that Havertz was able to find the back of the net. The player has looked desperately low on confidence in the final third so far this season, and hopefully this will provide a welcome boost.

Whilst for many the jury is still very much out on how well Havertz coped as part of the German defensive unit, Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella was impressed by what he saw.

Responding to the Arsenal man’s Instagram post, Cucurella said “LB” followed by a fire emoji. Clearly, Cucurella felt that the German performed admirably.

Havertz and Cucurella have a connection, having been on the books at Stamford Bridge together last season. 

Germany are due to play Austria before the end of the international break, it will be fascinating to see where Havertz is fielded in that match.

Once he returns to the Emirates Stadium, though, all eyes will be on him to see if he can finally get his Arsenal career truly up and running. The £65 million ace has endured a difficult start to life in north London, and only has one goal and one assist under his belt after 19 outings for the Gunners, across all competitions, so far this season. 

There have been positive aspects to his recent form, though. Arteta said that Havertz has been one of Arsenal’s best players in their last few matches. However, there has not been nearly enough end product from the 41-cap Germany international.

If he is to nail down a place in the Arsenal team and truly justify his price tag, he needs to quickly start showing that he can impact games in a positive, and more tangible way. Until then, the criticisms from the press will continue, and the pressure on his shoulder will keep on building up.
