Arsenal have secured the signing of Christian Norgaard from Brentford for an initial £10m fee.

Norgaard is emotional over signing for Arsenal but is relishing the opportunity to play for a big club towards the back end of his career.

The Danish international joins Mikel Arteta’s ranks to provide some much-needed competition and experience in midfield following summer departures.

Norgaard will wear number 16 at Arsenal, following in the footsteps of Aaron Ramsey but the new signing has named a fan favourite as his all time favourite player at the club.

Christian Norgaard names Jack Wilshere as his favourite ever Arsenal player

Speaking to the club’s official X account, Norgaard was asked a series of questions in order for supporters to get to know their latest hero a little better.

Norgaard was asked who his favourite ever Arsenal player was and after walking along the famous corridor at the London Colney training ground, his answer will please Gunners’ fans.

Norgaard stated: “I was looking down the corridor here and I saw a picture of Jack Wilshere. I remember him making a big impression on me when I was coming up through the youth.”

Jack Wilshere made a huge impact at the club during both his playing days and as a coach and is loved by everyone associated with Arsenal.

Wilshere could return to Arsenal after the U21 managerial role became vacant following Mehmet Ali’s departure for Brentford.

The former Hale End star left Norwich in the summer after taking interim charge of the first-team before the Canaries appointed Liam Manning as their new boss.

Arteta likes Wilshere’s coaching ability and there was some talk of him returning to replace Carlos Cuesta after he left to take up the manager’s job at Parma.

However, Arsenal have appointed Gabriel Heinze to their coaching staff and it remains to be seen whether Wilshere is holding out for a managerial role himself.
