Classy thing Bukayo Saka did after Arsenal v Brighton left fan ‘gobsmacked’

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka made one young fan’s Christmas on Sunday.

Bukayo Saka produced another exciting performance as Arsenal beat Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Whilst the winger did not get on the scoresheet himself, he was a constant threat to the Seagulls’ defence. As per WhoScored statistics, the 22-year-old took four shots and made three key passes against the south coast club.

In what has become established as something of a trend, Saka was also once again the most fouled player on the pitch, being unfairly upended four times in the match. The Hale End academy graduate has spoken out publicly about the extra attention he is being shown by defenders this season. This attention often takes the form of Saka being regularly fouled. The Arsenal ace needs extra protection from referees that he is not getting at this time.

Despite being the target of such a physical approach, and having not registered a goal or assist of his own, Saka will be pleased with the work he did against Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

His good work continued after the final whistle, too. As spotted by journalist Simon Collings, Saka was able to make one supporter’s day with a classy touch before returning to the dressing room.

The reporter observed: “Bukayo Saka about to head down the tunnel, but spots a kid with a sign asking for his shirt as it’ll make his Christmas. Whips it off and hands it to the kid, who is gobsmacked.”

Saka is a fan favourite and hero to many at the Emirates Stadium. That young fan now has an artefact to treasure forever.

Since being appointed as Arsenal manager in 2019, Mikel Arteta has worked hard to improve the relationship between the club and its fans. The Spanish coach has certainly been successful in this endeavour. Whilst there used to be division in the fanbase and frustration at the Emirates Stadium, there is now a great deal of belief amongst the supporters and regularly an excellent atmosphere in the ground.

Seeing academy starlets such as Saka flourish has played a big part in helping the club heal and return to title contention. The £195,000-a-week ace has now established himself as a superstar for club and country and will be desperate to accrue the silverware that his reputation deserves.
