Chelsea star Cole Palmer and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice shared a laugh on social media after England beat Switzerland.

Arsenal duo Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka were able to play a key role for the Three Lions as they secured a place in the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

Saka earned the man of the match award for his decisive performance, as he struck England’s equaliser from range in the second half, and then stepped up during the penalty shootout. The 22-year-old winger was able to lay some demons to rest, as having missed from the spot in the final of Euro 2020, he made no mistake this time around.

Meanwhile, Rice was able to largely shackle former Arsenal star Granit Xhaka, limiting his influence in the middle of the park.

Arsenal fans felt that Rice was excellent against Switzerland, providing Gareth Southgate’s side with a platform to build from at the base of the midfield.

The 25-year-old former West Ham United man has reminded everyone with his efforts in Germany that he can still excel as a No. 6, which may feed into Mikel Arteta’s thinking ahead of the upcoming domestic campaign at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal are currently on the hunt for a new midfield signing to complement Rice. Any new arrival in North London could define the England man’s role for the Gunners next season.

Cole Palmer responds to Arsenal ace Declan Rice on social media after Euro 2024 progress

In the wake of the national team’s triumph over Switzerland, Rice took to Instagram to post an image of himself celebrating the win alongside teammates Ivan Toney and Jude Bellingham, with the caption: “Togetherness. Semis we coming!!!”

In response to this, Chelsea favourite Cole Palmer responded with: “WHOS EMMAAAAAAAAA,” in reference to a meme that has recently emerged from the popular TV dating show, Love Island.

Rice replied to Palmer, echoing the catchphrase: “who’s EMMMMAAAAR,” accompanied by two laughing face emojis.

Players on international duty during tournaments have a lot of downtime, and it would seem that Love Island is providing some much-needed distraction for Rice and Palmer this summer.

On top of that, Rice has also struck up a close friendship with Arsenal transfer target Toney. Should the Brentford striker join the Gunners this summer, he will already have a familiar face waiting for him at the Emirates Stadium.
