Bukayo Saka is one of Arsenal’s most important players.
The England international has been consistently brilliant for the Gunners since he started playing regularly, and he remains a key part of the side despite all the new signings.
Saka doesn’t just score goals and provide assists for Arsenal; he often does so when Mikel Arteta’s team are in desperate need.
That is what makes the 24-year-old a game-changer, but two former Gunners stars have statistically been even better than Saka in this regard.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are Arsenal’s biggest game-changers since 2019/20
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette were both signed by Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.
The Frenchman joined the Gunners from Lyon in the summer of 2017, and he spent five years at the Emirates Stadium.
Aubameyang, on the other hand, joined six months later and was Wenger’s final signing as Arsenal manager.
Both players had a big impact at the Emirates, especially the Gabon star, who was the biggest reason why Arsenal won the FA Cup and Community Shield in Arteta’s first year.

The Gunners are better off without Lacazette and Aubameyang now, as the likes of Bukayo Saka are delivering in the famous red and white.
However, a stat revealed by The Athletic shows that the Arsenal number seven isn’t actually Arteta’s biggest game-changer – there are four players above him.
The top two are Aubameyang and Lacazette, who were both released from their contracts.
69 per cent of Aubameyang’s goals in the Premier League since the start of the 2019/20 season changed the game state, while 67 per cent of Lacazette’s strikes did the same.
| Total goals | Game state changing goals | Game state changing goals percentage | ||
| 1. | Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang | 36 | 25 | 69% |
| 2. | Alexandre Lacazette | 27 | 18 | 67% |
Two current Arsenal stars are also bigger game-changers than Bukayo Saka
Aubameyang and Lacazette scored important goals for Arsenal, but it is a surprise to see that they boast a higher percentage of decisive strikes than Saka.
What’s even more surprising is the fact that the Arsenal number seven is not the next name on the list – there are two current first-team stars who have been bigger game-changers.
| Total goals | Game state changing goals | Game state changing goals percentage | ||
| 3. | Leandro Trossard | 21 | 12 | 57% |
| 4. | Gabriel Martinelli | 41 | 23 | 56% |
| 5. | Bukayo Saka | 55 | 29 | 53% |
Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli have a better ratio when it comes to scoring game-changing goals than Saka.
The Belgian has come up with some big moments off the bench since he joined the club, while Martinelli has also scored some huge goals against the top sides.
