Cristiano Ronaldo took a subtle dig at Arsenal during the October international break whilst in conversation with Wojciech Szczesny.

The international break is not a time welcomed by Mikel Arteta, who suffers two weeks of great anxiety over his player’s fitness.

During the September break in domestic play, Arsenal lost Martin Odegaard to an ankle injury, with the October break raising concern over Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.

The first week of the international fixtures has had Arteta worrying, with Arsenal making the headlines for reasons aside from the injury status of their players.

Cristiano Ronaldo makes dig at former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny

The international break has provided some blockbuster clashes, with several Arsenal stars on duty.

Jakub Kiwior is with the Poland national team, who lost 3-1 to Portugal on Saturday night in a fixture that alerted Arsenal fans to one story.

It wasn’t what happened on the pitch that made the headlines, as a meeting between Cristiano Ronaldo and former Gunner Wojciech Szczesny generated attention.

Ronaldo and Szczesny were videoed in conversation together in the tunnel, sharing a conversation regarding the goalkeeper’s recent transfer to Barcelona.

“I went to Barcelona,” the former Arsenal shot-stopper said to Ronaldo, to which the forward responded with a jibe at his ex-teammate.

“I know. Unbelievable, not really, you had to retire to go to a big club,” the five-time Ballon d’Or winner replied.

Having played for European giants Arsenal, Juventus and Roma in his career, the exchange could be seen as a subtle dig towards the clubs, after what has been a wild turnaround of events for Szczesny.

Szczesny prepares for Barcelona adventure

In the summer, Szczesny announced his retirement from professional football after spending seven years at Juventus.

The goalkeeper was even linked with a possible return to Arsenal as a free agent however, he instead announced that he was to hang up his boots.

This was quickly retracted as five weeks later, the former Poland international signed for Barcelona, who lost Marc-Andre ter Stegen to a serious injury early into the campaign.

It was quite the summer for the 34-year-old, with Ronaldo finding the humour in the shot-stopper’s change in plans.
