Jack Wilshere has added to Arsenal’s growing injury crisis and has been put in a surgical boot to protect his ankle injury, says the Mirror. He is set to miss games against Liverpool and Udinese and is battling to be fit for the trip to Manchester United on Sunday week, says the paper this morning.
The injury crisis only adds to the problems facing AW, who could be without nine first-teamers when Liverpool arrive at the Emirates on Saturday.
Meanwhile the Mail reports that AW is trying to find a new central defender and he is set to revive his interest in Germany international Per Mertesacker. The paper says the possible capture of Mertesacker is unlikely to satisfy fans who have grown tired of the caution in the transfer market.
The Werder Bremen player, 26, has 75 international caps, was an Arsenal target 12 months ago and now has less than a year to run on his contract. The German side value him at around £9million but could let him go for £6.5m, it is claimed.
The Sun says City hope to seal the £22million signing of Samir Nasri inside 24 hours. He is heading for a medical before penning a five-year deal. In the same paper Theo has staked his claim to play up front after his goal against Udinese.
He said: “I would like to put it out there that I want to play up front. The boss has always promised me that I will get a chance to play through the middle and it’s now been six years since I joined the club. If I keep scoring like I did the other night, maybe I’ll get a chance up front. I’m not making any demands, but I am giving the boss something to think about.”
