Arsenal have had a number of incredible centre-backs over the years.

The Gunners, when they were under George Graham, were extremely solid at the back, and Arsene Wenger inherited a phenomenal backline.

The legendary Frenchman signed a few brilliant defenders himself in the years that followed, and some of them have gone down as legends of the club.

One such defender has earned some high praise from a Liverpool player.

Curtis Jones says Sol Campbell was better than Arsenal star William Saliba

William Saliba is regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the world today.

The French defender has been absolutely incredible since he made his debut in 2022, and he would comfortably get into any team in the world now.

Saliba has all the qualities to become Arsenal’s greatest-ever centre-back if he continues on the same path, but at this moment in time, he is not quite there yet.

Tony Adams is someone Arsenal fans will claim is the best ever, but Sol Campbell, who joined and left Arsenal on free transfers during Wenger’s reign, is up there as well.

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, who was an Arsenal fan growing up (The Athletic), appears to be a big fan of the Arsenal Invincible.

During a game of past vs present on Goal, Jones was asked to pick between Campbell and Saliba.

The Liverpool star thought about it for a few seconds but then picked Campbell.

William Saliba will become an Arsenal legend when one thing happens

Saliba is an unbelievable defender.

If you’re talking about the modern game, you can make an argument that he is on the same level as some of the greatest defenders of all time, but one thing is still missing: trophies.

Saliba has only ever won the Community Shield in his career, and that puts him below all the big names in world football – past and present.

Once the Frenchman wins the Premier League, the Champions League, or both, we are convinced he will be spoken about in the same breath as the likes of Campbell, John Terry, and Rio Ferdinand, among others.

There is no reason why that will not happen in the upcoming campaign.
