Mikel Arteta has made some ruthless decisions at Arsenal over the years.
The Spaniard had never been a manager before when he took charge of the Gunners, so every one of his decisions was questioned.
One of his biggest calls early on in his career was to axe Mesut Ozil, who was Arsenal’s highest earner at the time.
Another player Arteta banished was Matteo Guendouzi, and Darren Bent has revealed what he has heard about the Frenchman.
Darren Bent says Matteo Guendouzi’s ‘stinking’ attitude made Mikel Arteta get rid of him
Arsenal signed Guendouzi from Lorient in the summer of 2018, when Unai Emery was at the helm.
Not many people in England had heard about the Frenchman at the time, but he had a phenomenal debut season at the Emirates.
Guendouzi played 48 games for Arsenal that campaign, and his performances convinced fans that he was the future of the club.
In his second season, however, the midfielder fell out with Mikel Arteta and was eventually banished from the squad.

He didn’t play a single minute in the final weeks of the campaign and wasn’t even involved in the FA Cup celebrations.
Now, Bent has revealed what he heard about Guendouzi from his sources at Arsenal.
He said on talkSPORT: “He got out Guendouzi, whose attitude was stinking. He was a real problem, apparently, from what I’ve heard.
“I’m not making these rumours up, but this is what I’ve heard, that his attitude was poor, Guendouzi. So he obviously had to go.”
What Matteo Guendouzi said about his relationship with Mikel Arteta
Guendouzi was one of the most exciting midfield prospects in Europe at the end of his first season at Arsenal.
The Frenchman had the potential to become a superstar, but his issues with Arteta ruined what could’ve been a great career in the Premier League.
However, Guendouzi hasn’t had anything bad to say about the Arsenal manager.
Speaking in 2022, as per Goal, he said: “It’s true that I didn’t have the best relationship with him. Afterwards, I always tried to work, always gave the maximum of myself in training and in matches.
“I still played a few matches with him, and I still had great performances. He preferred other players, and I respect that decision.
“That’s why afterwards I also decided to leave because I was still young, I needed playing time to continue to progress. The most important thing when you’re young is to play.”
