Arsenal are exploring all the options in the market right now to strengthen their squad.

Mikel Arteta’s priority is a new forward and the Arsenal manager has made it clear that his side needs reinforcements in attack after Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus’ injuries.

The Gunners are working really hard to bring a new striker in, but at the time of writing, they are not close to completing any deal.

The free-agent market could be worth exploring if Arsenal can’t sign a new player before Monday’s deadline, and Darren Bent has a suggestion for the North Londoners.

However, the pundit has tipped a midfielder instead of a striker.

Darren Bent explains why Arsenal should sign Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba hasn’t played a game of football since September 2023.

The former Manchester United and Juventus star was hit with a four-year suspension after testing positive for a banned substance, but that was reduced to 18 months after his appeal.

Pogba is eligible to return to professional football in March this year, and he is available on a free transfer after his contract with Juventus was terminated.

It remains to be seen where Pogba will end up, but Bent thinks he would do a good job if Arsenal signed him on a short-term deal.

He said on talkSPORT: “I still think there’s a player there. I still think technically he’s still one of the best. But we don’t know what he’s got left in the tank.

“If I’m an Arsenal fan, would I take him at Arsenal on a three-month loan? Absolutely! Just because of the injuries they have had, a little bit of rotation.”

Bent also added: “I like him as an eight. Even though he has got the range of passing to just sit there, I like him as an eight, go forward, help.

“If he was to get himself fully fit, Rice-Pogba-Odegaard, oh my goodness gracious me!”

Should Arsenal sign Paul Pogba?

This is an easy answer – no!

Pogba is an ‘unbelievable‘ player and if he can find his feet again, he is capable of playing for any club on the planet. But, Arsenal don’t need him.

The Gunners have plenty of options in the middle of the park. Declan Rice and Thomas Partey are regular starters, while Jorginho is a more-than-capable backup.

Myles Lewis-Skelly can also play in the middle of the park if Arsenal lose two of the above three players.

There’s enough cover in midfield for Arsenal until the end of the season. As good as Pogba can be, there’s just no need to bring him to the Emirates.
