Former Arsenal defender David Luiz and Declan Rice have both reached out to Bukayo Saka after the England winger sent a heartfelt message to fans.

Bukayo Saka was one of the England players to see their hopes dashed on Sunday evening, as the Three Lions were beaten by Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

Along with Arsenal teammate Declan Rice, Saka started the match in Berlin, but was unable to really get into the game, as Spain dominated possession throughout the contest. Meanwhile, England fans felt that Rice fell way short of his best.

Saka did have his moments throughout the tournament, though. The 22-year-old winger was a hero for his nation in their quarter-final clash against Switzerland. On that occasion, the Hale End academy graduate got England back into the game with a strike from range, and then held his nerve to convert when his turn came in the penalty shootout.

England legend David Beckham was quick to praise Saka for his exploits against Switzerland, and overall the attacker can look back upon his efforts in Germany with pride.

Bukayo Saka sends message to England fans, David Luiz and Declan Rice respond

Saka recently took to Instagram to share his thoughts and feelings in the aftermath of England’s painful defeat.

He said: “It’s hard to put into words how I’m feeling right now. But to all the fans, thank you for your incredible support throughout the tournament. You followed us across Germany and showed us love every where we went. We really appreciate you.

“There’s no better feeling than playing for our country at these tournaments and it’s even more special playing with a group like this. We all believe we’re on the right track and we’ll get there together. Thank you all again and see you soon.”

Former Arsenal centre-back David Luiz responded to this post with a message of his own for Saka: “Proud of u,” followed by a red heart emoji and applauding hands.

Saka also received heart emojis from Rice and a litany of former Gunners, including Sean Kolasinac, Folarin Balogun, and Chuba Akpom.

What next for Arsenal star Saka after Euro 2024 final?

Mikel Arteta will simply be relieved that Saka came through the competition unscathed.

Saka and his fellow Euro 2024 finalists will join the Arsenal pre-season schedule later than the rest, and will now enjoy a well-earned rest.
